Whaleback’s CrystalBlue Unified Communications Service has the ability to program 911 capabilities to individual phones. This enables emergency responders to go directly to the emergency location or understand where the situation is instead of showing up at the business or school and not knowing where to go.
When a caller dials 911, CrystalBlue will send location information to the PSAP (Public Service Answering Point) including street address, building and room number. Additionally, it also notifies emergency services within the organization via email or text at the time the 911 call is placed.
Per Phone Location Designation
CrystalBlue permits businesses and education institutions to individually identify every phone with its own specific address and location information such as floor, suite, or room number. Addresses are validated against the public services database before acceptance, are automatically recorded in the emergency databases and presented to the 911 call center when they are called. Emergency callers may not know or be able to convey current location information so specific location information is automatically transmitted to the PSAP making it easier for first responders to identify the caller’s location.
Phone Differentiation When Using Shared Extensions
CrystalBlue uniquely identifies the physical phone rather than the extension number for 911 calls and associates each phone with its own location information. Working in conjunction with Per Phone Location Designation, this further assists first responders to find the correct location.
Directed PSAP Call Return
In some situations, the Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) may need to call back the originator of the emergency call. In most systems, these calls go to a main answering location or even an auto attendant. This greatly impedes the responders’ ability to get critical additional information. CrystalBlue directs these calls back to the specific phone that placed the 911 call. Even in the case of a shared extension that appears on multiple phones, the call will be directed back to the phone that placed the call. This helps avoid the situation where a responder could be waved off because they are unaware of the emergency or having to search around for the person needing aid.
Internal 911 Call Notification
Organizations are now able to take internal action to start aid or assist with the arrival of responders in an emergency as soon as the call is placed to the PSAP. A 911 Call Notification has been created to send email and/or text notifications to an internal emergency response team. This notification includes the identity and location information of the specific station that placed the call. In a crisis situation, having the internal team initiate action saves precious time.
911 for Off-Site Phones
CrystalBlue establishes separate addresses for remote phones and can distinguish remote addresses from the educational institution's main address.
